Very exciting news! Our Inn on Mill Creek mugs arrived earlier this month, and they look beautiful! When you stay at the Inn on Mill Creek B&B, you can now sip your coffee or tea from a 12 oz. forest green or chocolate brown marble glaze footed mug or a 12 oz. Abby style cinnamon or sand colored mug.

The stoneware mugs were each handcrafted from scratch by Deneen Pottery right here in the USA, and feature original custom-made artwork depicting the Inn on Mill Creek. Each piece is created by hand, lead free, and durable enough to be oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. And did we mention, they are beautiful.

NC Mountains Fall Color Report October 29, 2013

Late October brings us to Week 5 of our Fall Color Reports for the North Carolina Mountains near Black Mountain, Asheville and Old Fort. Finally! Mother Nature has turned up the color at our elevation of 2,300 feet inside Pisgah National Forest, three miles east of Black Mountain.

The Arrowhead Artists & Artisans League (A3L) in Old Fort

The Arrowhead Artists & Artisans League (A3L) is a group of local artists who are dedicated to promoting the arts in Old Fort, NC. If you like art, you’ll appreciate their efforts to preserve the art culture of the mountains in our fabulous little town. This year, A3L opened an art gallery and studio space — Arrowhead Gallery & Studios — on Catawba Avenue in Old Fort, complete with a gorgeous painted quilt block.

Our Wise Old Snapping Turtle

In the seven summers that we’ve been here at the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast, we’ve noticed from time to time in the pond a dark object just below the surface of the water, a submarine-like being, which occasionally sends up its periscope to check around, only to quickly sink back beneath the depths when spotted. OK, maybe Innkeeper Brigette has been reading too much about the Hunley Submarine in anticipation of a little innkeeper R&R (roadtrip and relax) vacay to Charleston later this year… But our resident snapping turtle had yet to make a real appearance, other than sticking its long neck out of the water. Until this week.

Southern Steam 630 Excursion Train

The beautifully restored Southern Railway Steam 630 locomotive made a visit to our neck of the woods during the weekend of April 20-21, 2013. The excursion train, owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM), is part of Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam Program. 2013 Painters Herb Festival is April 13-14

Time to get your thyme! The 9th annual Painters Greenhouse Herb Festival is the weekend of April 13-14, 2013, at Painters Greenhouse in Old Fort, NC. Painters is one of our favorite places to buy plants and the herb festival features not only a variety of herbs on sale, but also local crafts, great food, live music and other activities. So while you’re walking among all the sage and rosemary, you can also check out the work of more than 25 local artisans and listen to fabulous music, featuring Lee Entrekin and Friends opening on Saturday followed by Mean Mary, then jazz and blues artist Linda Mitchell on Sunday morning followed by Jay Brown One-Man-Band performing American roots originals and classics.
