Enjoy photos from our recent snow day, taken January 17, 2022 and the following day. We got a total of 14 inches of snow, which made for a beautiful winter wonderland. It started Saturday night and snowed for almost 24 hours straight!
One of the reasons we LOVE being tucked away two miles into Pisgah National Forest is that the opportunities for stargazing are plenty. With very little light pollution, we have a beautiful night sky above the Inn on Mill Creek B&B. Every month brings noteworthy celestial events this year, including meteor showers, a total lunar eclipse, and planets aligning.
Great news for lovers of the outdoors: Plans are underway to construct several miles of trails in our neighborhood of Pisgah National Forest in Old Fort, North Carolina, and to improve on existing trails! We are super excited about this news because it means there will be even more opportunities for our fellow Old Fort residents and our guests at the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast to enjoy getting out in nature.
Elevations above 3,000 are quickly slipping past peak color, but we have lovely bits of fall foliage remaining in our neighborhood of Pisgah National Forest at 2,300 feet in Old Fort, NC. The leaves on our vast number of oak trees are turning now, so look for oranges and reds to start dominating the landscape and read on for the scoop on where color can be found this last week of October.
We are well on our way to having one of the more colorful fall seasons in our 13 years at the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast! Fall is progressing quite nicely as we head toward the the third weekend of October, with bright yellows as the dominant color in our neck of the woods, 2,300 feet in elevation inside Pisgah National Forest east of Asheville. Read on for tips on where to spot great color this week and next.
Early October is bringing us pops of fall color and it’s making us very happy! We’re so lucky to be inside Pisgah National Forest, watching the season progress and while Mother Nature has a way to go with her fall color show, we are liking Act 1 so far.

One of our quiet season projects this winter was the construction of a boardwalk on roughly half an acre of boggy land at the Inn on Mill Creek, where a tributary of Mill Creek comes in to the pond. It is a beautiful area of the property that has been inaccessible to guests… until now!
Many of you know that Innkeeper Dave sustained a serious shoulder injury in early 2019, resulting in two surgeries and a nearly year-long recovery. Great news – our favorite engineer and DIY innkeeper is back in good form and so along with the usual freshening up of guest spaces, we’re tackling a number of projects that had to go on the backburner last year.
