Winter 2007

I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees.  The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets.  It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day.  It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful.  Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail...my cares fall from me - I am happy.

We took a photo diary of our first year. Enjoy!!

Entry:  February 1, 2008

We've only seen four days of snow this winter. Only one of those snowfalls stuck around longer than 24 hours. The rest of the snow days have lasted just for the day. So we weren't too surprised when we had an ice storm that lasted -- you guessed it -- just one day. We had about four hours to take as many pictures as possible before the temperatures reached the 50s and the sparkly landscape disappeared. [Click the photo below for a larger image.]

And what happened the next day? One pansy took a big gulp of ice water and decided to bloom, which seemed to entice the spring bulbs to start coming up.

This fancy fellow arrived today to check out the lake. He was dressed to impress his gal pal (who was a pretty shade of gray). He followed her around a little, she started swimming next to him and then he decided to go over to the shallow end to dig around in the foliage. His lady friend followed but then proceeded to ignore him for several minutes, at which point he decided he better start flirting again to keep her attention.
