The Inn on Mill
Creek Bed & Breakfast is located three miles (10 minutes) northeast of downtown Black Mountain in
western North
Carolina, and seven miles (15 minutes) west of the town of Old Fort.
The Google Map below is an excellent
and convenient way to map us -- simply enter directions, print a
map if you like, and you're on your way! Please do not
use Mapquest or Yahoo Maps to find us as their information is
incorrect.
Below the map, we've provided step-by-step driving directions to the Inn on Mill Creek from the north,
south,
east and
west. A helpful
note: Look for the Blue and White "Bed
& Breakfast" signs at each of the turns off the
interstate to
Mill Creek Road. You will easily find us approximately 10 minutes from
I-40 Exit 66 (Ridgecrest) and more than a mile from our nearest
neighbor.
If
you want to use a GPS navigation system to find
us:
Tele Atlas, the company that
provides data to Google Maps and SOME GPS units, has added our
physical address as of October 2009:
3895 Mill Creek Road
Old Fort, NC 28762
If the address
above does not work, please do not
choose the next closest address.
Some GPS units are still confused by our road having multiple
names and the next closest address is not the next closest
address at all.
Try our coordinates instead:
N35°38'34" / W82°15'21"
Latitude 35.643 / Longitude -82.256
NAVTEQ, which provides some GPS units with data, has not yet uploaded
our address to its system. We are working to get verified by
NAVTEQ.

Our
first policy is to serve you, our guests.
We want you to so enjoy your time with us
that you become one of our many return guests. [Read
more about our Inn] We have the following policies to make
everything go
smoothly from reservation to check-out:
Making
reservations
You can make a reservation by
calling
us at 828.668.1115 or toll free at 877.735.2964, or by checking
our room availability and putting in a request for a
reservation online.
To provide
a great experience for all our guests, we do not overbook the Inn. We have a limited number of rooms, so when you make your reservation, your room will be guaranteed with
a credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover). Guaranteed
reservations are subject to the cancellation processing fee below.
We'll send you a reservation confirmation for
your entire stay. You will be invoiced at
the end of your stay, at which time you can pay by check, cash,
MasterCard, Visa or Discover (or with an Inn on Mill Creek gift certificate if you have
one to redeem). North Carolina state (6.75%) and McDowell county room
(5.0%) taxes currently total 11.75%.
Rates are based on per
night, double occupancy. Add $25 per night for each guest over
dual occupancy. Breakfast is
included in the room rate.
Single night and same day reservations: We generally have a
two-night minimum due to high demand for reservations of two or
more nights in our area. We consider single night bookings
a) when we have fewer than four rooms already reserved, and b)
within five days of arrival (e.g., starting Monday for a Friday or
Saturday-night stay). In addition to meeting the requests of our
guests who wish to reserve two or more nights, this also helps
to keep check-in/check-out traffic
to a minimum for our guests who are staying longer with the
intent of enjoying the peace and quiet of our surroundings.
Single night bookings must be made by phone, and are not
eligible for discounts.
Since we're a small
Bed & Breakfast and do not have staff, same day reservations
may have limited availability and must be made by phone.
Checking in and checking out
Check-in is typically from 3:00pm-5:30pm, though
we're flexible with later times. We ask for an estimate of your
arrival time, which helps in planning the day's schedule at the
Inn. Please let us know if you'll be coming at a different
time than you originally expected, even if it changes during the day of your
travel.
Check out is by 11:00am on your
final morning with us, at which time we will take payment for
your reservation (and get your room key).
Cancellations
If by some cruel twist of fate you must cancel your reservation
more
than 14 days before you arrive, you will be responsible for a $30 processing fee. If you can simply re-schedule, we will credit this fee toward your future reservation. We still want y’all to
come!
Even more regrettably, if you notify us of the need to cancel or reduce your stay with us
14 days or fewer before you arrive but still ahead of your arrival date,
we reserve the right to hold you responsible for 50%
of your unused reservation if we are unable to re-book the room. Do let us know as soon as possible...
if we can fully or partially re-book the room, we will reduce
your charge proportionately (to a minimum of a $30 processing fee).
We dislike charging anyone for time they are not
here -- that's not our goal, and maintaining goodwill is important to us as a
business. But we do have a limited number of rooms and late cancellations
make it a challenge to rebook the rooms.
We feel that 50% is
a fair burden to both parties for a room left empty that
otherwise may have been booked.
No shows and same day
cancellations, which do not allow us even the possibility of
rebooking the room,
and which have already obligated us to preparation and planning,
may incur full-cost of
the reservation.
Group
Reservations: Deposits and Cancellations
For large Group Reservations
we require a 50% deposit, payable by cash or check. Our
cancellation policy for Group Reservations is a $100
cancellation fee on a 30-day or greater notice, potential loss of deposit
on cancellation made between 30 and 14 days notice, and possible full
cost of the reservation on less than 14 days notice. As
above, inform us as soon as possible; if we can re-book the rooms, we will
refund/reduce your charges accordingly, to a minimum of the $100
group cancellation fee.
Smoking,
Candles, Open Flames
Smoking:
All of
the rooms and common areas in the Main House and Lake House are
non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outdoors. There is plenty of
space to respect the airspace of your fellow guests who do not
smoke.
Ashtrays are available upon request. In-room smoking will incur a $100 cleaning/airing
out fee.
Candles,
incense, etc.: We have a "no open flames in guest
rooms" policy for the safety of our guests and ourselves,
and the innpugs, too. Sadly, candles and open flames have caused
destruction and loss of life at more than one Bed &
Breakfast. Here is the most recent one: http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/07/25/candles-caused-new-ulm-bb-fire/.
Please keep yourself and our other guests safe. Use of
candles/incense/etc. may incur a $100 cleaning/airing out fee.
Firepit:
We've recently built a fabulous firepit on the property near
the orchard for guests to use. Please let us know if you plan to
use the firepit and we'll help you with locating our firewood
and getting the fire started. We require that one person be
attending the fire at all times until the fire is completely
out. Please note that from time to time, the North Carolina
Forest Service may issue a burn ban for the area, and our
location inside the National Forest may affect the availability
of the firepit during a burn ban.
Weddings
(and other gatherings)
Having
had a destination wedding ourselves, we would absolutely love to
share our little piece of paradise with you by hosting your
special day on our grounds. We have a page devoted to
weddings at Inn on Mill Creek. Children
Kids
under the age of 11 are
welcome in our Lake House rooms. Our Mountain Laurel and Maple
Tree rooms have lofts with full-size beds that provide a great experience for kids.
Guests
must be at least 18 years old to occupy a room without an adult.
In other words, we will not make a room reservation for a minor
without an adult staying in the room as well.
Children
under the age of 12 must be in the company of an adult at all
times when on our property.
If
you are traveling with an infant, please contact us for room
availability. We want all our guests to have a relaxing,
quiet stay and if guests have already reserved a room at the Inn
for a quiet getaway, we will do our best to accommodate you and
your little one, while keeping with the wishes of guests who
already have reservations. We have a Pack-n-Play available
(just one, so please call ahead to make sure it is available if
you want to use it). We typically charge less for infants and
toddlers, depending on bed usage and breakfast needs.
Pets
We know how great it is to be able to travel
with our pugs, so we've made two guest rooms at the Inn on Mill
Creek pet friendly. We welcome non-aggressive dogs of small
to medium stature, and other furry and feathered friends on a
case-by-case basis. Similar to our double occupancy policy,
an "extra guest" charge of $15 for the first night
applies for one pet and $10 for each additional pet, with $10
per night per pet thereafter,
which covers extra cleaning. We normally limit the number
of pets to two, but that may be more or less depending on their
size and breeds. Please confirm with us ahead of time if
you wish to bring more than one pet.
We require that your
pet is
current on his or her vaccinations or titers. For dogs, this
includes DHLLP (a.k.a DHL2P
or 5 in 1), bordatella and rabies. A pet waiver, which
is part of our standard check-in form must also be
signed when you arrive.
For the comfort and safety of our
diverse group of guests and our resident
innpugs, pets are not
permitted in common areas of the Main House (i.e., kitchen,
library loft, great room, dining solarium). When outdoors, guest
pets should be leashed
at all times. Pooper-scoopers are provided. Accidents
happen. If your pet has an accident in your room, please clean
what you can immediately, and notify one of your innkeepers as
soon as possible. If we can get to it soon enough, hopefully it
will be a non-issue. We do reserve the right to full reimbursement for
damage caused by guest pets (or humans). While
you're on Inn property, your pet is permitted to remain in your room
unattended. While you're out and about and off Inn property, we
request that you crate your pet. We have a 27"
tall crate
available to use free-of-charge. If
your pet is disruptive or a problem arises that cannot be resolved
(e.g., excessive barking, lack of control, pet being left without proper
confinement, etc.), we will be happy to recommend a nearby pet
boarding facility,
or ask that you seek alternative accommodations.
