For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value.

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug.

Our first policy is to serve you, our guests. We want you to so enjoy your time with us that you will return many times to our friendly bed & breakfast inn. [Read more about our Inn] We have the following policies to make everything go smoothly from reservation to check-out:

Making reservations

You can make a reservation by calling us at 828.668.1115 or toll free at 877.735.2964, or by checking our room availability and putting in a request for a reservation online.

To provide a great experience for all our guests, we do not overbook the Inn. We have a limited number of rooms, so when you make your reservation, your room will be guaranteed with a credit-card,  (MasterCard, Visa or Discover). Guaranteed reservations are subject to the cancellation processing fee below.

We will send you a reservation confirmation for your entire stay. You will be invoiced at the end of your stay, at which time you can pay by check, cash, MasterCard, Visa or Discover (or with an Inn on Mill Creek gift certificate if you have one to redeem). North Carolina state (6.75%) and McDowell county room (5.0%) taxes currently total 11.75%.

Rates are based on per night, double occupancy. Any room reservation for more than two guests will incur an additional charge of $25 per person per night. Breakfast is included in the room rate.

For reservations made more than seven days in advance, we typically require a two-night minimum stay. However we may make exceptions less than seven days from the date of the reservation, based on how our schedule plays out -- feel free call us to discuss making a one-night reservation. This policy is different for weddings at Inn on Mill Creek.

Checking in and checking out

Check-in is from 3:00pm-5:30pm. If you anticipate arriving past check-in, please call before 5pm to let us know you'll be coming later than expected.

Check out by 11:00am on your final morning with us, at which time we will take payment for your reservation (and get your room key).

Cancellations

If by some cruel twist of fate you must cancel your reservation more than 14 days before you arrive, you will be responsible for a $30 processing fee. If you can simply re-schedule, we will credit this fee toward your future reservation. We still want y’all to come!

Even more regrettably, if you notify us of the need to cancel or reduce your stay with us 14 days or fewer before you arrive but still ahead of your arrival date, we reserve the right to hold you  responsible for 50% of your unused reservation. Do let us know as soon as possible... if we can fully or partially re-book the room, we will reduce this charge proportionately (to a minimum of a $30 processing fee).

We dislike charging anyone for time they are not here -- that's not our goal, and maintaining goodwill is important to us as a business. But this is our livelihood, and late cancellations often cost us the chance to book the room to someone else.  We feel that 50% is a fair burden to both parties for a room left empty.

No-shows and same-day cancellations, which do not allow us even the possibility of re-booking the room, and which have already obligated us to preparation and planning, may incur full-cost of the reservation.

Single-night Reservations

Generally we require a two-night or more stay. We will consider single-night bookings a) when we have fewer than 4 rooms already reserved, and b) within 5 days of arrival (e.g., starting Monday for a Friday or Saturday-night stay). This helps us to keep check-in/check-out traffic to a minimum for our guests who are staying longer with the intent of enjoying the peace and quiet of our surroundings. Single-night bookings must be made by phone, and are not eligible for mid-week rates.

Group Reservations: Deposits and Cancellations

For large Group Reservations we require a 50% deposit, payable by cash or check only. Our cancellation policy for Group Reservations is a $100 cancellation fee on a 30-day or greater notice, loss of deposit on cancellation made between 30 and 14 days notice, and full cost of the reservation on less than 14 days notice.  As above, let us know as soon as possible; if we can re-book the rooms, we will refund/reduce our charges accordingly, to a minimum of the $100 group cancellation fee.

Smoking

All of the rooms and common areas in the Main House and Lake House are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outdoors. There is plenty of space to respect the airspace of your non-smoking fellow guests.  Ashtrays are available.  In-room smoking will incur a $100 cleaning fee.

Weddings (and other gatherings)

Having had a destination wedding ourselves, we would absolutely love to share our little piece of paradise with you by hosting your special day on our grounds. We have a page devoted to weddings at Inn on Mill Creek.

Children

Kids under the age of 11 are welcome in our Lake House suites. We have loft beds in the suites that provide a great experience for kids.

Guests must be at least 18 years old to occupy a room without an adult. In other words, we will not make a room reservation for a minor without an adult staying in the room as well.

Children under the age of 12 must be in the company of an adult at all times when on our property.

If you are traveling with an infant, please contact us for room availability.  We want all our guests to have a relaxing, quiet stay and if guests have already reserved a room at the Inn for a quiet getaway, we will do our best to accommodate you and your little one, while keeping with the wishes of guests who already have reservations. We have a Pack-n-Play available (just one, so please call ahead to make sure it is available if you want to use it). We do not charge an extra guest fee for infants.

Pets

We know how great it is to be able to travel with our pugs, so we've made two guest rooms at the Inn on Mill Creek pet friendly. We welcome non-aggressive dogs of small to medium stature, and other furry and feathered friends on a case-by-case basis. Similar to our double occupancy policy, an "extra guest" charge of $25 for the 1st  night applies, and $10/night thereafter, which covers extra cleaning. We normally limit the number of pets to two, but that may be more or less depending on their size and breeds.  Please confirm with us ahead of time if you wish to bring more than one pet.

We require that your pet is current on his or her vaccinations or titers. For dogs, this includes DHLLP (a.k.a DHL2P or 5 in 1), bordatella and rabies.  A pet waiver must also be signed at check-in.

For the comfort and safety of our diverse group of guests and our resident innpugs, pets are not permitted in common areas of the Main House (i.e., kitchen, library loft, great room, dining solarium). When outdoors, guest pets should be leashed at all times. Pooper-scoopers are provided.

Accidents happen. If your pet has an accident in your room, please clean what you can immediately, and notify one of your innkeepers as soon as possible. If we can get to it soon enough, hopefully it will be a non-issue. We do reserve the right to full reimbursement for damage caused by guest pets (or humans).

While you're on Inn property, your pet is permitted to remain in your room unattended, provided he or she is in a crate. We have a 27" tall crate available to use free-of-charge.

If your pet is disruptive or a problem arises that cannot be resolved (e.g., excessive barking, lack of control, pet being left without proper confinement, etc.), we will be happy to recommend a nearby kennel, or ask that you seek alternative accommodations.
