Meet Your Innkeepers

“Two roads diverged at a wood, and I… I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. ~ Robert Frost

Dave and Brigette Walters have a passion for travel, nature, history, food and comfort, and being innkeepers allows them to share their passions with others in the hopes that their guests have a great experience at Inn on Mill Creek. [Read more about the Inn]

More about your innkeepers

As an engineer, Dave likes taking things apart and putting them back together (and sometimes taking them apart again and putting them back together). For Dave, much of the appeal of being a full-time innkeeper is the opportunity to take care of the inn and its mechanical, electrical, heating, air conditioning, fireplaces, plumbing, networking and such. He also likes gardening, and being creative around the property. He’s an excellent cook, too, which can also be attributed to his engineering mind. He constructs breakfast from scratch, adding his own creative touch to breakfast.

Brigette is a sensitive soul and enjoys lending a helping hand with a gentle smile. This translates well when you as a guest have a question or need guidance, as Brigette makes your happiness her priority. She loves to share her knowledge of the area. (We all know she secretly wants to be a tour guide at the Biltmore Estate.) She also happens to like a lot of things that start with the letter “g”, such as geocaching, gardening, and Graeter’s Ice Cream, and will talk about those subjects endlessly if you let her. An extremely detail-oriented person, Brigette’s keen eye for detail present in each aspect of your room’s decor, from the linens on the bed to the artwork on the walls to the custom soaps.

Before their lives as innkeepers began…

Originally from Cincinnati, the always-adventurous Dave traveled the world for several years after graduating from THE Ohio State University, both working and non-working.  In Dave’s past life…or, should we say, past lives… he’s been a jet engine mechanic in the Air National Guard, a field engineer on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and in Venezuela, earned his MBA, and, before innkeeping, spent 11 years in logistics and IT for a large automotive company.

Meanwhile, Brigette, with her down-to-earth and easygoing spirit, graduated with a degree in magazine journalism from Ohio University, assisted for a bit in the office of her family’s computer company located near Columbus, Ohio, then worked for almost nine years in human resources at one of the largest law firms in the state (and a wonderful firm at that). Always the multi-tasker, she also managed day-to-day administrative duties for the firm’s Cleveland office prior to diving into the innkeeping business.

Dave and Brigette lived on Lake Erie before trading their great, Great Lake view for a B&B in the woods in 2007. They had been married in 2004 — where else — on the grounds of Biltmore Estate in Asheville, and stayed at a local Bed & Breakfast. As you can imagine, they immediately fell in love with the mountains of western North Carolina, drawn to the charm, history and sheer natural beauty of the area, and with the idea of running their own B&B in the Black Mountain and Asheville area, which brings us to the present.
