As we move closer to the summer season, our May feature in our 12 Months of Birding series is one to listen and look for at the Inn on Mill Creek B&B, the aptly-named Summer Tanager.
Catawba Falls in Pisgah National Forest has become one of the most-loved waterfall hikes around here, and with it being the closest waterfall to the Inn on Mill Creek B&B, it is for sure appreciated by our nature loving guests. That’s why we want to share that the trail is currently undergoing improvements by the U.S. Forest Service and is slated to reopen in Spring of 2023.
Wintertime is a great time to do birdwatching – it’s one of the activities you can do year-round here in Pisgah National Forest east of Asheville, North Carolina.
Enjoy photos from our recent snow day, taken January 17, 2022 and the following day. We got a total of 14 inches of snow, which made for a beautiful winter wonderland. It started Saturday night and snowed for almost 24 hours straight!
Great news for lovers of the outdoors: Plans are underway to construct several miles of trails in our neighborhood of Pisgah National Forest in Old Fort, North Carolina, and to improve on existing trails! We are super excited about this news because it means there will be even more opportunities for our fellow Old Fort residents and our guests at the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast to enjoy getting out in nature.
Time to file our final fall color report for 2020! Hurricane Zeta brought some decent wind gusts that took down most of the fully changed leaves in our neighborhood of Pisgah National Forest late last week, but color remains at a few places nearby.
Elevations above 3,000 are quickly slipping past peak color, but we have lovely bits of fall foliage remaining in our neighborhood of Pisgah National Forest at 2,300 feet in Old Fort, NC. The leaves on our vast number of oak trees are turning now, so look for oranges and reds to start dominating the landscape and read on for the scoop on where color can be found this last week of October.
We are well on our way to having one of the more colorful fall seasons in our 13 years at the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast! Mother Nature has really outdone herself in 2020, perhaps knowing that we needed this beautiful break in a chaotic time. Let’s see where things stand with the progression of fall foliage in the mountains around Asheville, NC, as we head through the third full week of October.
